New park opens in W. Kelowna

A new downtown park has opened in West Kelowna.

Carate Park is described by city parks manager Stacey Harding as having “unique to West Kelowna features, including a one-of-a-kind playground and a walking path connecting two pollinator gardens for the bees.”

“The $140,000 12-week improvement project, at Majoros Road in Westbank Centre, was made possible mostly from cost charges on new development and upgrades were completed last week,” Harding said in a news release.

West Kelowna also announced on Thursday that it’s OK to have barbecues in its parks again. Barbecues had been banned in the summer while wildfires burned nearby.

The kids spray park has closed for the season, but parks in Glenrosa have reopened after being threatened by the Mount Law fire.
