SUTHERLAND, Hendry Malcolm

January 13, 1934 - September 17, 2021 Malcolm passed away on September 17th, 2021 at the age of 87. Malcolm was predeceased by his wife Vera and his siblings. He is survived by his son, Doug (Joan) and daughter, Heather (Max) and his six grandkids, Brooks, Colin, Bryce, Ryan, Emma, Jack and sister-inlaw, Grace. Born in Athabasca, Alberta; Malcolm grew up in town with his brother Don and three sisters: Mary, Hessie and Jean. He graduated as a pharmacist from the University of Alberta in 1956 and took a job at Griswold Drugs on the south side of Edmonton. Malcolm hired and later married a beautiful young cosmetician named Vera Yaremcio who was the love of his life. They wed on November 14, 1959 at the United Church in Vegreville, AB and moved to Vancouver Island (Victoria and Shawnigan Lake, BC) where they lived and had their two children, Doug and Heather. In February 1985 Vera and Malcolm moved to West Kelowna. Malcolm wasn’t ready to retire and worked as a pharmacist in Penticton and Peachland until the age of 76. Both Malcolm and Vera were very involved with the Westbank United Church. Malcolm also enjoyed the many friends he made through his volunteering with the Westbank Lions and Westside Health Network.
