Counselling gets funding increase

Counselling programs in Kelowna and Vernon are receiving extra provincial funding to keep offering low-cost and no-cost services.

The Canadian Mental Health Association Kelowna, Metis Community Services Society of BC and Independent Living Vernon Society are among 49 agencies in B.C. that are receiving the extended funding announced Thursday.

CMHA Kelowna offers virtual counselling services to adults ages 25 and up, weekdays during the afternoon. This service is available free to individuals, couples, families, and caregivers of youth who are struggling.

The Metis Society in Rutland offers programs dealing with mental health and substance abuse that blend Western practices with traditional aboriginal healing.

Independent Living Vernon offers one-onone support and support groups for people with disabilities.
